Andrew Venn - Asbestos compensation solicitor

Newcastle senior asbestos compensation solicitor

Andrew, a Newcastle solicitor, has many years of experience acting exclusively for claimants in all types of asbestos-related disease claims. He specialises in high value and complex mesothelioma cases. Based in our Newcastle office, Andrew has handled compensation claims for clients who were exposed to asbestos working in all industry sectors and occupations, including shipyards, power stations, petrochemical plants, factories, offices, building sites, Local Authority premises and railway carriage workshops.

Andrew has been involved in several recent landmark cases. He had conduct of the trade union backed lead cases in the Pleural Plaques Test Litigation in the High Court, the Court of Appeal and House of Lords. During the last 12 months he has recovered over £3.8 million for his clients in successful asbestos compensation claims.

Andrew is one of the most experienced solicitors specialising in representing victims of mesothelioma and asbestos-related lung cancer in Newcastle and across the North East of England. He has gained a reputation for concluding many mesothelioma claims within his clients’ lifetime.

Given that the average life expectancy for mesothelioma is typically less than a year from the date of diagnosis, Andrew appreciates the need to act quickly and pursue claims vigorously, whilst always treating his clients and their families with the utmost compassion and respect.

Andrew’s in-depth knowledge of the mesothelioma compensation process covers all aspects of dealing with the claim from beginning to end, including tracing companies and insurers, obtaining supportive witness evidence, instructing the most experienced medical experts and pursuing court action using the specialist accelerated mesothelioma procedure in the Royal Courts of Justice, where he has a formidable reputation for securing substantial damages for his clients.

Andrew will use his experience, determination and robust negotiating skills to ensure that you and your family obtain the best possible outcome in your asbestos compensation claim as quickly as possible.

Successful asbestos compensation claims

Here are just a couple of examples of successful asbestos-related claims that Andrew has handled in the Newcastle and North East area.

Asbestos related cancer, mesothelioma

Mr Ronald Cater, who had been exposed to asbestos working in the docks, died before his mesothelioma compensation claim was concluded. His widow, Betty Cater, 63, pursued the claim. A decision of the House of Lords in 2006 meant that Mrs Cater was only entitled to a percentage of the full compensation because not all of Mr Cater’s employers or their insurers could be found.

Andrew pursued her case and, following a reversal of the House of Lords decision, he argued the point in the Royal Courts of Justice where is was ruled that Mrs Cater should be awarded the full value of her claim amounting to more than £103,000 in mesothelioma compensation.

Mesothelioma - Exposed to asbestos at Shipyard

A North East man who developed mesothelioma caused by exposure to asbestos working at a Tyneside shipyard was awarded more than £150,000 in compensation.

Charles Cochran was exposed to asbestos working as a plumber and pipe fitter by two employers. He was awarded more than £150,000 in asbestos-related compensation after he was diagnosed with mesothelioma, a disease for which there is no cure.

Andrew worked determinedly and the claim was settled just four months after first meeting Mr Cochran. Charles had no idea that asbestos was dangerous and remembers workmates playing football with it during their lunch break. He was never offered a face mask or given any warnings about the dangers of working with asbestos.

Although when Charles became ill he feared he could have mesothelioma it still came as a terrible shock when the diagnosis was confirmed .

He knew the compensation would not restore his health but it did make sure his wife will be looked after. It was a big relief for Charles to know that.

Client comments

Here are just a few examples of thanks expressed by clients for whom Andrew has successfully fought for asbestos-related compensation.

“Dear Andrew, thank you for the very good news ref success of my claim for Mesothelioma, and industrial disease. May I say that the way in which you and your company has dealt with my claim has in my opinion been exemplary, from the first time we met for my initial discussion and interview myself and my wife have been treated with the upmost respect, consideration and compassion at a very difficult and uncertain time in both our lives.

“The progression of our case for compensation has been continuous from that initial consultation we have always been informed of progress and kept fully aware of the various vagaries of the legal systems involved throughout. Your experience and depth of knowledge of the legal system and in particular your specialist knowledge of Mesothelioma has always been impressive.

“When we have been unsure of anything we have always been able to readily contact you for your professional advice and necessary assurances in an unhurried manner, both you and your company have always ‘had time’ to explain in laymen’s terms, this has been of immeasurable help and assurance.

“Finally we owe you in particular, and your company in general a debt of gratitude, you may rest assured that we will have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending you and your company to others in similar circumstances”.
Mr J A Polley – Victim of mesothelioma

“My family and I would like to thank Mr. Venn for all he did for us. He conducted a thorough and sympathetic interview with me. I had my husband taken from me after being 50 years together from when we met. It was heartbreaking and I will never get over it. Justice has been done”.
Miriam Dean – Widow of mesothelioma victim

“The service provided by Mr Andrew Venn of Newcastle was of the highest quality. He conducted all transactions in a clear, concise and informative manner that left nothing in doubt. He was always accessible by telephone and extremely caring and tactful.

He gave a great deal of his time to me, and offered not only professional support but provided a personal, sympathetic approach to our problem, such that I had complete trust in him. His efficient control of the procedure meant that the whole process ran smoothly for us at this dreadful time. Many thanks indeed. “
