Oonagh McClure - Asbestos compensation solicitor
Belfast senior asbestos compensation solicitor
For almost two decades, Oonagh has been successfully representing people in Northern Ireland who have been injured at work or who suffer from occupational diseases, because of the negligence of their employer.
Over recent years, this Belfast solicitor, has focused primarily on asbestos-related disease cases, which often require investigation into organisations and insurance companies which are no longer operating. Sadly, many of the victims of these cases are deceased and Oonagh has dealt with their families with great sensitivity, to obtain asbestos-related compensation for them, understanding that whilst money cannot ever compensate, financial security will at least prevent further distress.
Based in our associated office in Belfast, Oonagh has also gained significant experience and insight in recent years into the complex nature of cases involving clinical negligence and other serious injury cases.
Her in-depth knowledge of the difficulties often experienced in pursuing compensation claims for cases such as those caused by exposure to asbestos, and other serious personal injury compensation claims, will ensure that you and your family receive the just compensation to which you are entitled.
Oonagh is a member of the following organisations:
- Fellow accreditation with APIL, (The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers) of which she is the Regional Coordinator for NI
- NI Board member of PEOPIL (The Pan European Organisation of Personal Injury Lawyers)
- the Belfast Solicitors Association and a former Committee member
- AVMA (Action Against Medical Accidents) - The charity for patient safety and justice)
Recent successful asbestos compensation claims
Here are just a couple of cases for which Oonagh was able to secure compensation for our clients in difficult circumstances.
Asbestos compensation claim - Mesothelioma
One of our clients contracted the asbestos-related disease, mesothelioma as a result of asbestos exposure during his time as an electrician. Sadly, he died of this terminal disease, and unfortunately no autopsy was carried out. Despite the fact that the doctors treating him were satisfied he had mesothelioma, the defendants argued that, in the absence of a postmortem, this was impossible to say with complete certainty.
Oonagh engaged a number of specialists to confirm the diagnosis, based on the records of his complaints, and negotiated fiercely until the defendant offered a settlement of £200,000 in mesothelioma compensation for his widow.
Asbestos compensation claim - Pleural plaques
A client consulted us when he was diagnosed with the asbestos-related disease, pleural plaques. Oonagh initiated a claim on his behalf but the decision of the House of Lords ruling out compensation for people with pleural plaques came before his case had settled.
Oonagh arranged for him to have further medical examinations and subsequently a diagnosis of mild asbestosis was made. This further diagnosis of an asbestos-related disease, enabled us to continue with the case, although the defendants argued that asbestos compensation should not be awarded for a diagnosis of mild asbestosis. Oonagh continued to negotiate and was able to secure asbestos-related compensation of £17,500 for our client.
