Exposure to dangerous substances including chemicals can occur as a result of soil contamination. This risk is most likely to occur when brownfield sites are developed without sufficient cleansing of the soil. An example might be where new buildings are erected on the site of industrial waste, for example asbestos. Proper soil vapour extraction will of course remove this risk.

Soil gas vapour may be emitted as a result of industrial contamination and can include dangerous chemicals such as TCE and PCE.
