PVC Plastic injury claims - Vinyl chloride monomer

Vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) is used in the manufacture of PVC. Until the 1960's VCM was regarded as safe, and respiratory protection was not provided - for example to workers who would enter the autoclaves after every batch for cleaning purposes.

Exposure to VCM is now known to cause liver cancer, and exposure has been strictly controlled since 1974. However the long latency period between the exposure and the onset of symptoms may mean that cases will still arise in workers who were engaged in the work many years ago.

The heating of plastic packaging film is also known as a cause of "meat wrappers' asthma"

If you are unlucky enough to suffer an illness, disease or injury as a result such exposure, it is possible that you may be able to bring a claim for damages, otherwise known as compensation.
