Kaolin Pneumoconiosis - China Clay Pneumoconiosis

Kaolin Pneumoconiosis – also known as China Clay Pneumoconiosis - is unlike other forms of pneumoconiosis, as this condition does not cause major breathing difficulties.

Kaolin in used in a variety of industries including ceramics, medicine, cosmetics and in the manufacture of white incandescent light bulbs.

Sufferers will typically have worked in the ceramics industry or the cosmetics and paper industries.

Symptoms of kaolin pneumoconiosis disease

Several of the symptoms presented by sufferers of all types of pneumoconiosis diseases are common to many, if not all, of these diseases so it is important to seek expert medical treatment if you suspect you may have kaolin pneumoconiosis disease.

Notifiable occupational diseases

Kaolin pneumoconiosis disease is classed as a notifiable industrial disease, and if advised, your employer must report this to the Health and Safety Executive. If you are diagnosed with Kaolin pneumoconiosis, with your permission, your doctor is required to inform your employer.

Not only may you be able to make a claim for personal injury compensation against the employer for whom you were working at the time of your exposure, but you may be able to claim disablement benefit through the Department of Work and Pensions.

To make a claim for compensation, you must be able to prove that kaolin pneumoconiosis has developed as a consequence of your working environment at that time. It is often more than 10 years after you have been exposed to the harmful dust before symptoms of kaolin pneumoconiosis disease appear.
