The legal system in South Africa is similar to the one in the UK. Using our knowledge (and investing over £1 million in the process) Thompsons was able to secure a landmark, multi-million pound compensation payment for asbestos miners in South Africa and their families against two companies Gencor and Gefco who were intending to remove their assets from South Africa without compensating their workers and their families. Profits from this case continue to go towards investigating the possibility of litigation for others injured by asbestos and those suffering from silicosis such as gold miners.
