Accident compensation for man who slipped on ice and suffered broken leg

Our client, a young man, had been returning home one evening when he slipped and fell on compacted snow and ice.

Falling heavily, he suffered a broken leg and was unable to work for several months. Our specialist accident compensation lawyers were able to secure several thousand pounds in compensation for his injuries and lost income.

Slipped and fell on ice

Having travelled by train to his home town, our client had walked through the barriers to exit the station. Walking along the footpath outside the station, he slipped and fell on the ice. He was taken to hospital where it was found that he had suffered a fractured tibia. His leg was treated and put in plaster, but he was unable to work for several months.

Although his fracture has healed reasonably well, he still experiences pains and twinges at times.

Failed to make the area safe for customers

On the day of our client’s accident, the weather conditions were such that the defendant would have been aware that the footpath was likely to cause a hazard to foot traffic leaving the station. The defendant had failed to grit the area or taken any measures to make it safe for users.

This was a breach of the Occupiers' Liability Act as they had failed to take all reasonable care to ensure that visitors to their premises would be reasonably safe, for example by implementing a winter maintenance programme to ensure appropriate action was taken when conditions indicated the need.
