Asbestos Compensation Freeze Lifted

A freeze on thousands of asbestos compensation claims all over the UK has today been lifted after five years of waiting.

Thousands of former employees of Turner and Newall are now able to continue with their compensation claims which were frozen after Turner and Newalls parent company, Federal Mogul, went into administration in 2001.

Since 2001 the claimants have been waiting for an agreement to be reached between the administrators and Federal Mogul's insurers; an agreement was reached last month when claimants voted in favour of a compensation settlement proposed by the company's administrators.

Securing Compensation

As a result of this Clear Answers lawyers, Thompsons Solicitors can now work on ensuring that former employees of Turner and Newall, or their dependants, get the compensation that they deserve.

Many of the former employees now suffer from mesothelioma and in the five years that claimants have been waiting for their compensation claims to be restarted over 100 former employees have died.

The agreement that was settled upon will see former employees of Turner and Newall that worked for the company after 1969 share a total of £36 million. Employees working before 1969 will share a total of £33 million.

Head of litigation for Clear Answers lawyers, Thompsons Solicitors said: "This is the final hurdle in what has been a five year battle to gain compensation for asbestos victims. We will be working hard to ensure claimants receive their compensation as soon as possible."

Compensation Claim

If you or a member of your family has contracted mesothelioma or any other asbestos-related disease, you may be able to make a personal injury claim for compensation. You may even be able to make a claim for a relative who has died as a result of an asbestos-related illness.
