Whiplash compensation claim for bus driver in road accident

Our client in this road traffic accident was a bus driver. At the time of the accident, he was on duty and his vehicle was stationary as he allowed passengers to board the bus. Without warning, the defendant’s vehicle hit the rear of the bus with force, giving our client no chance to brace himself for the impact.

Court proceedings issued

Our specialist road traffic accident lawyers fought this claim for accident compensation. The defendant’s insurers refused to negotiate an acceptable settlement and we were forced to issue court proceedings. However, before the trial date, we were able to negotiate several thousands of pounds in road accident compensation.

Whiplash injuries from the road traffic accident

The impact of the vehicle striking the bus at the rear caused extensive damage to the bus and our client was thrown forward in his seat, suffering whiplash injuries.

Initially our client had not felt immediate pain. However, he was taken by a colleague back to the depot to report the accident, and within a couple of hours, he began to experience stiffness in his neck, shoulder and back, and later, numbness in his hand. He attended both casualty and his GP but was unable to work for several weeks being in constant pain throughout this time. Thankfully, he has suffered no long-term injury.

Negligent driving in road traffic accident

Our road accident lawyers fought the claim on the grounds that the defendant had been negligent because he failed to brake, swerve or otherwise manoeuvre his vehicle in order to avoid the collision.
