A Wiltshire lady received compensation when she slipped on a wet floor whilst attending a training course at New College in Swindon.
Sally Jeffrey had been asked by her employer to attend a health and safety training course at the College. She was walking to the cafeteria when, as she turned the corner in the corridor, she slipped on a wet floor which was being cleaned. The College employed a firm of cleaning contractors who were working in the area at the time.
Mrs Jeffrey pursued a claim for compensation against the cleaning contractors as their employee had failed to place warning signs on the floor which would have warned Mrs Jeffrey that the floor was wet. As a result of this accident she suffered injury to her ankle, shoulder, ribs and neck.
Representing Mrs Jeffrey, Daniel Poet from Clear Answers' lawyers, Thompsons Solicitors in Bristol, said: “Mrs Jeffrey’s injury could easily have been avoided if adequate warning signs had been placed on the floor. If Mrs Jeffrey had known that the floor was wet and slippery, she could have taken another route.”
