Driver receives work accident compensation for hand injury

A driver by profession, our client in this accident at work compensation claim, suffered a serious hand injury when a tyre he was inflating exploded. His employer initially denied liability for his injury but through robust negotiation, our specialist work accident lawyers were able to secure several thousand pounds in compensation.

Accident at work

When our client was asked to carry out some work which was not in his normal duties, it required him to use a piece of equipment which needed a tyre to be inflated. He used an airline belonging to his employer. During the procedure, the tyre exploded, causing serious injury to his hand.

Following the accident, a tyre cage was installed which would have avoided injury to our client had it been present at the time. He had not received any instruction on how to use the airline, nor were any instructions posted as to its use.

Injuries through accident at work

At the sound of the explosion, colleagues ran to his assistance and found that our client had been left with a finger of his dominant hand hanging off. He was rushed to hospital where he was admitted. He had suffered a laceration to the joint area and underwent surgery to reattach the tendon.

He was unable to work for several months and has been left with restriction in his movement and on-going discomfort which is painful. He suffers particularly when his hands are cold and he has been advised that these symptoms will be permanent.
