Mesothelioma compensation for wife, mother and grandmother

Now retired, this client was exposed to asbestos dust during the 1970’s. She did not work directly with or around asbestos, but was exposed as the dust was present in the atmosphere as she went about her duties throughout the factory where she worked.

A manufacturer of paper products, her employer had ceased to exist some years ago but we used our vast knowledge and expertise of investigating such claims to trace the legal successors of that company and bring a claim for mesothelioma compensation.

Our specialist asbestos compensation lawyers worked quickly and effectively to ensure that her claim for compensation was completed during her lifetime and they were successful in securing a six-figure sum in mesothelioma compensation.

Exposed to asbestos at work

Working in a number of organisations during her early working life, our client returned to work for the defendant after bringing up her children.

As part of her duties, she had to visit many areas of the factory and remembers that there was always someone sweeping up and the air was always dusty. Areas of the factory contained production processes involving heat and it was here that asbestos was used in pipe lagging and allowed to contaminate the air.

Symptoms of mesothelioma

Our client first visited her GP in 2010 with a persistent cough. He referred her for a chest x-ray which was clear. However, when the cough still refused to improve, despite treatment with Rabeprazol and steroids, she returned several times. She was given a spirometry test which also normal.

During the following twelve months, our client made several visits to her GP and specialist clinics, and underwent procedures, including a CT guided biopsy, as efforts were made to establish what was causing her symptoms.

Diagnosis of mesothelioma

Almost a year after her first visit to her GP, she was diagnosed as suffering from mesothelioma and was informed that her condition was terminal. Naturally she and her family were devastated by this news.

Chemotherapy treatment began almost at once with a second cycle a few weeks later.

There is no cure for mesothelioma but the compensation will provide much needed practical support and allow the family to spend time together without additional worry about financial security.
