Cyclist receives substantial road accident compensation

The defendant in this claim for cycle accident compensation had pulled out of a junction onto the A road on which our client was travelling, immediately in front of our client. He then carried out a dangerous manoeuvre in front of our client, driving his vehicle into our client's path, leaving him no chance to avoid a collision.

Our specialist road accident compensation lawyers were able to secure a quarter of a million pounds in compensation for his injuries which were serious and extensive, leaving him with long-term cognitive problems which will mean he is permanently disadvantaged on the open labour market.

Serious road accident injuries

As a result of the defendant’s actions, our client was unable to avoid colliding with the vehicle. He suffered concussion, injuries to his face and a broken collarbone. He also suffered strain to ligaments, and various soft tissue injuries. However, the worst injury was to his head, which resulted in a worsening of memory and balance, and brain injury affecting his cognitive functions.

Claiming for road accident compensation through your car insurance

When he was able, our client had initially sought the advice of a local solicitor, referred by his insurance company. Unhappy with the lack of progress in his cycle accident compensation claim, he was recommended to us by a family member. Our specialist road accident lawyers immediately began to assess the claim and whilst this progressed, were able to secure several interim payments, which went towards alleviating the financial impact of our client being unable to work.

Issuing court proceedings

Although the defendant’s insurers had admitted liability for our client’s injuries, they refused to enter any negotiations to agree an acceptable settlement. We were forced to issue court proceedings in an attempt to secure compensation for our client.

However, after the issue of proceedings, our road accident lawyers were able to negotiate £250,000 in compensation. However, this was not before we had advised our client to reject several earlier offers that we felt did not reflect the severity of his injuries.
