Serious injury at work leaves client disabled

Our specialist injury at work lawyers were able to secure substantial damages for our client who was left severely disadvantaged in the open labour market after an accident at work.

Although the defendant admitted liability for our client’s injuries at work, their insurers refused to negotiate an acceptable settlement value and we were forced to issue court proceedings.

Before the trial date, we were able to recommend our client accept a six-figure sum in accident at work compensation for his serious injuries and future loss of income.

Accident at work

At the time of the accident at work, our client had been working with a colleague when a stack of steel beams fell, trapping him and breaking his leg.

At hospital, it was confirmed that he had suffered a serious fracture to his leg and knee, which required immediate surgery. Although the fracture healed, it did so in a less than perfect position and he continues to suffer significant problems as a result of this accident at work.

He has also been advised that he is likely to require a total knee replacement within a few years.

Working after the accident at work

The injury to his knee has meant that our client is unable to carry out the heavy manual work that he had previously been employed for and the defendant subsequently terminated his employment.

Although our client has sought alternative employment that would offer lighter duties, this has proved difficult to find. He has been advised that he will remain at a disadvantage in the open labour market and is unlikely to obtain full employment for the remainder of his working life.
