Shopper compensated after slip in supermarket

A shopper, who was injured after she slipped on water in her local supermarket, contacted our specialist personal injury lawyers to pursue a claim of compensation.

Our client was shopping in the frozen food aisle of the supermarket when she slipped on water, which had leaked from one of the freezers, and fell hard on her back. A sign warning customers of the water on the aisle had been put up, but it placed too far away from the hazard for customers to be aware of it.

On account of the accident, our client suffered painful strains to her back, neck and shoulders which took five months to fully recover. As well as struggling with basic tasks around the home, our client was unable to properly carry out her physically demanding role as a child minder and required assistance from family members while recovering from her injuries.

The supermarket admitted failing its health and safety obligations to our client by not placing the warning sign at a reasonable distance from the water, but initially offered an insufficient sum of compensation. Following advice from our specialist personal injury lawyers, our client rejected this sum and eventually secured full compensation which took into account her loss of earnings during her recovery.
