Teacher compensated after classroom injury

A teacher who suffered a fracture when a pupil purposely slammed a door on her wrist has been awarded compensation.

A child interrupted our client’s class by running into the classroom mid-lesson. As she went to ask the pupil to leave, they slammed the door on her hand and held it shut against her wrist. The teacher had no teaching assistant present and was not equipped with a whistle, meaning she could not alert her colleagues.

The teacher was admitted to hospital and was diagnosed with a fracture to her wrist and soft tissue damage. The hospital recommended her for a course of physiotherapy and sessions of counselling following the incident.

Initially the council responsible ignored her claim but our specialist injury lawyers fought on her behalf and she was eventually compensated for the injury.
