Welder’s foot broken by heavy steel frame

Our client was a welder working for an engineering company who was injured when a heavy steel frame fell on him and fractured his foot. He contacted our personal injury lawyers to investigate a claim for compensation as he was unable to work for 12 weeks following the accident and suffered ongoing symptoms for a year.

Our client had been welding a large steel frame and was instructed to help his colleagues to move two steel frames which were laid flat on a work bench. As they lifted the top steel frame off the bench the one underneath slipped and fell onto our client’s left foot, fracturing three toes.

Injured foot required surgery

His fractured foot required surgery and our client was in a plaster cast with crutches for 12 weeks which meant he required assistance at home and with basic daily tasks. As a result of the injury he has been left with significant permanent scarring to his foot.

Our client’s employer admitted liability for the accident and our specialist personal injury lawyers were able to secure several thousands of pounds in compensation because the employer had failed to devise a safe system for moving the frames which had breached manual handling regulations.
