Road accident at work causes broken ankle and crushed foot

Our client suffered personal injury in an accident at work when a colleague ran over his foot whilst driving a company vehicle. He asked for our advice on bringing a compensation claim for work accident compensation and we were able to secure a significant sum in work accident compensation for this life-changing accident.

During the process of making this compensation claim for a personal injury at work, the defendant, our client’s employer, admitted liability and our work accident lawyers were able to secure an interim payment of several thousand pounds.

However, it was necessary to issue court proceedings when the defendant’s insurers refused to negotiate a fair settlement. But through strong and continued negotiation, our specialist work accident lawyers were able to secure an acceptable sum, avoiding the need to go to trial.

Foot and ankle injuries following road accident at work

Our client had been working with a colleague on a road maintenance project when the colleague got into the vehicle, ready to leave. Our client was nearby but his colleague failed to notice him, and ran over our client’s foot, breaking his ankle and crushing his foot.

Surgery to mend foot and ankle injuries

His foot was extremely painful and swollen and he was taken immediately to casualty. Following examination and X-ray, he was admitted to hospital where he underwent surgery to correct the crushing injuries to his foot. Unfortunately, the initial operation was not entirely successful and further surgery was required, though even this has left our client with some permanent disability, with the possibility of even more surgery in the future.

Consequences of road accident at work

Although our client was able to return to work for his employer, he has been unable to carry out the same duties as before, which has impacted on his income. It is likely that he will remain disadvantaged in the labour market for the remainder of his working life.
