Shipyard Electrician Diagnosed With Mesothelioma

Our client was referred to us in 2002 when he had just been diagnosed with mesothelioma.

Upon receipt of the referral, our solicitor immediately attended upon him in hospital to take a detailed statement of his evidence. He had worked for many years as a shipyard electrician and had been exposed to asbestos as a result of working alongside lagging contractors.

Claims to five former employers of our client were made and a medical expert was instructed to provide a report on his condition. As no satisfactory response to the claim was received, proceedings were then issued.

The Defendants failed to admit liability and the matter progressed towards trial. A month before the trial date the Defendants made an offer of £70,000 gross of Pneumoconiosis Act Monies and CRU which was accepted by the Claimant, who after deductions received the sum of £57,458. Settlement was achieved 12 months after the original referral.
