Designated cycle path was dangerous

Our client was injured during an organised city cycle ride when she fell off her bike because the route had been poorly maintained by the council. Our client contacted our specialist personal injury lawyers because the impact from the fall caused her to fracture her coccyx bone and she took eight weeks to recover.

The designated cycle route included a bridge made of wooden planks. As she cycled over the bridge, her bike swerved on the slippery surface and the front wheel went into a gap between the wooden planks, causing her to fall off her bike.

Cyclist struck by car at roundabout receives road accident compensation

On his usual route to work through a busy traffic area, our client was negotiating his way around a traffic roundabout when the rear of his bike was struck by the defendant’s vehicle, throwing him and the bike into the air. The accident caused our client to suffer several injuries. He asked our specialist road accident compensation lawyers to represent him in bringing a claim for road accident compensation following his cycling accident.

Although the defendant admitted liability, the insurer refused to negotiate an acceptable sum in compensation for his injuries and we were forced to issue court proceedings. After advising our client to reject an initial unacceptable offer, and through continued fierce negotiation, we were able to secure a five figure sum in road accident compensation prior to the trial date.

Cyclist hit by car at junction receives compensation

Our solicitors are specialists in cycle accident claims and we recently recovered compensation for a cyclist who suffered injuries when he was hit by a car.

Our client was cycling home and he passed through a set of traffic lights at a junction. A vehicle drove through the junction from his left and collided with him. The vehicle hit his left side and he was thrown up onto the bonnet and windscreen, then landed in the road.

Cyclist killed in road traffic accident involving Olympic bus driver

The tragic death of a 28-year-old cyclist is a sharp reminder of the danger of road traffic accidents involving cyclists. According to figures produced by RoSPA (the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents), in 2011 there were 107 fatalities in Great Britain and over 3,000 seriously injured.

Around 20% of those killed or injured are children, which coincides with the fact that the periods between 8.00 and 9.00 in the morning and 3.00 to 6.00 in the afternoon are the most dangerous hours for cyclists but that is also when most traffic is on the road with the daily commute. Again, reflecting the reality of the road conditions, statistics show that cycling accidents which occur when it is dark are more likely to result in a fatality.

Cycle accident compensation for broken bones

When the hit and run driver of a delivery lorry could not be traced, despite knowing the name of the company, our specialist road accident compensation lawyers began the process of making a claim for compensation against the MIB (Motor Insurers Bureau) on behalf of this client. Although the company was known, they refused to accept liability for our client’s cycling accident for some time.

However, through strong negotiation by our lawyers, and pressure from the MIB, we were eventually able to secure a five-figure sum from the lorry driver’s employer, after advising our client to reject two initial unsatisfactory offers.

Compensation claim for cyclist hit in the rear by another vehicle

After cycling the same route to work for many years, our client in this road traffic accident, suffered several injuries and has been forced to find an alternative route, as he is unable to face cycling through the area where he was injured.

Our specialist road accident lawyers were forced to issue court proceedings in order to secure a successful outcome for our client. However, prior to the trial, and after advising him to reject several offers, they were able to negotiate an acceptable settlement.

Despite the defendant's insurers attempt to apportion 50% contributory negligence against our client, we were able to settle this claim for 100% in our client's favour.
