Imogen is a great example of someone who has built on her own success in gaining a degree at university, and then taken advantage of the opportunities offered by us to encourage employees to develop their potential in the legal profession. Already actively campaigning for people's legal rights, Imogen was able to complete her legal training and joined Thompsons as an assistant solicitor in 2000. Imogen is now a partner, based in our Manchester office.

In recent years, Imogen, a Manchester solicitor, has represented clients bringing accident compensation claims across Central England. She now specialises in personal injury compensation claims for accidents that result in serious, often fatal injury. Her experience includes catastrophic injury such as head and brain injury, spinal injury, and amputations. She is a member of our national Serious Injury Unit, supervising the Manchester based team.

As a Team Manager Imogen is responsible for the day to day management, supervision and development of a team of lawyers and support staff who are committed to providing a personal injury service to injured people. As regional Serious Injury Team Coordinator she works with the team to fight for justice for the most seriously injured victims of accidents.

Imogen studied English at university and then worked in Community Arts. She became actively involved in campaigning and the Law Centres Movement, using the law and other methods to enforce people’s rights – particularly the rights of disabled people.

Work accident compensation claim – Amputation following crushing injury

Following an accident at work in which his hand was crushed between the rollers of a machine, Imogen's client sought our help in bringing this work accident compensation claim. During this work accident, Imogen’s client had lost several fingers. He then had to undergo many operations to try to repair his injuries, but eventually he also had to have his thumb amputated and required rehabilitation and a prosthetic limb.

Obviously, the injuries from this accident at work had significant life-changing effects and he was unable to return to his previous duties. Although he was able to return to work on different duties, he is now disabled and will therefore be disadvantaged in the future labour market.

At the time of the work accident, Imogen’s client had been cleaning a machine through an open hatch. The room was dark and noisy and he was unable to tell that the machine was still operating. Since her client’s accident at work, his employer has fitted skylights and additional lights to the area containing the machine. A new system allowing the machine to be operated manually when being cleaned has also been fitted. The employer was also fined £50,000 following prosecution by the Health and safety Executive.

The defendant, her client’s employer, admitted liability and Imogen was able to negotiate substantial six figure work accident compensation for her client.
