Peter Mulhern - Serious accident compensation solicitor

Senior serious injury solicitor - Birmingham

Peter has developed a high level of understanding of the complexities of serious injury compensation claims, including those that involve head and brain injury, spinal cord injuries and amputations.

Over recent years, Peter has specialised in these catastrophic and life changing cases and has won a reputation for using careful preparation, and tough negotiation skills in order to obtain the maximum compensation for such seriously injured individuals.

He never forgets that each victim is an individual with specific needs, or that their family will be traumatised by the injuries suffered by their loved one. Many serious injury claims can take several years to settle, particularly if the victim is a child, but Peter will make sure you and your family are kept advised at all times.

If appropriate, he will request interim payments of damages from Defendant’s insurers as the case develops. He aims to make the claim process as efficient and straightforward as possible in achieving the best outcome by keeping the client and their family at the heart of the case at all times.

Peter is based at our Birmingham office where he is a Partner and the Branch Manager. Peter is the National Head of the Serious Injury Unit and deals personally with serious injury cases from all over the West Midlands’ region. Peter is recommended in the Chambers & Partners Directory of Claimant Personal Injury lawyers in the Midlands.

His extensive experience of the legal system will ensure that your claim is dealt with professionally and that you and your family receive the just compensation to which you are entitled, in order to achieve the best quality of life that is possible for you.

Peter is a member of several legal and related organisations, including:

Serious injury accident compensation claims

Here is just a couple of examples of the range of serious personal injury and accident compensation claims that Peter has fought and won.

Road accident compensation claim

Injured in a road accident when she was just a teenager, our client received severe head injuries and suffered brain injury. She was left unable to walk and with other physical and mental problems.

As she was a minor, a claim for serious injury compensation was brought by her parents. As is often the case with such cases, it was necessary to defer the final outcome of the claim until our client had reached maturity and her long-term condition could be more accurately assessed.

During these many years, Peter was able to secure interim payments from the defendant. These significantly reduced the financial burden on the family for providing the disability housing and round-the-clock care that she needs to live as rewarding and fulfilled a life as is possible.

Clinical negligence compensation claim

A claim for clinical negligence was brought on behalf of Rebecca Evans who, just a few weeks after her birth, had developed meningitis. This devastating illness caused a severe brain infection which subsequently caused partial paralysis and other associated disabilities.

Born with a dimple (known as a sinus) in the small of her back, its presence had been dismissed by the doctor carrying out the routine six-week check on Rebecca. A few weeks later, Rebecca became unwell and her mother took her to her GP and then the hospital.

Despite many examinations and procedures carried out over several days, the true nature of the dimple and its risks of allowing the meningitis organism to attack the spinal cord, were not fully investigated, and meningitis was not diagnosed until Rebecca had already suffered extensive brain and spinal cord infection.

This was a complex case where medical negligence had occurred on more than one occasion.  Breach of duty was eventually admitted by one of the hospitals involved in treating Rebecca but Peter had to enter into extensive discussions and negotiations in order to correctly establish what had happened, and ultimately obtain the just compensation to allow our client to live as normal a life as possible, given her disabilities.

Comments from compensation claimants

Just one example of the satisfaction expressed by clients for whom Peter has successfully fought for compensation.

"Nigel and I are both 100% happy with the service and support we got ... - They've charged us no fees at all, nothing whatsoever."
Jane Evans (Mother of Rebecca), received clinical negligence compensation
