Sharon Fleming – Accident compensation solicitor

Work accident compensation solicitor - Oxford

Previously a Birmingham solicitor, Sharon is now based in our Oxford office and has been representing clients across the Midlands and Oxfordshire for many years.

Having honed her skills on all types of personal injury compensation claims, including accidents at work, public liability matters and road accidents, Sharon has, for several years now specialised in employer’s liability claims. These have included slips, trips and falls in the workplace, manual handling injuries, working at height (falling from height accidents) and being hit by falling or moving objects, including defective machinery.

However, Sharon has also been extremely successful in securing industrial disease compensation for workers who have developed such occupational diseases as vibration white finger (known as Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome), through the negligence of their employer.

Her experience in public liability compensation claims has also been wide and varied. She has handled claims resulting from slips and trips on the pavement or worn surfaces, to being injured through poorly maintained property and equipment.

Sharon’s knowledge of the law that applies to road accidents, extends to dealing with cases involving pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, and of course occupants of vehicles, whether a passenger or the driver.

Her base in our Oxford office has also enabled her to develop a vast wealth of knowledge of the law surrounding the Regulations. She receives numerous new accident compensation claims each year from the many manufacturing plants in and around Oxford.

Sharon has developed a reputation for achieving an extremely high success rate, due primarily to her knowledge and experience of these workplaces, and their respective work processes.

Sharon will bring all of these skills to bear to ensure you and your family receive the fair compensation to which you are entitled.

For over 10 years now, Sharon has been a member of APIL (The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers) with whom she is a Senior Litigator.

Successful accident compensation claims

Here is just a small sample of successful accident compensation claims for which Sharon secured accident compensation for her clients.

Work accident compensation claim – Head injury

Sharon’s client in this work accident was operating an automatic robot-welding machine. Without warning, a spark from the welding process hit an overhead light, shattering the glass and showering the debris onto her client’s head.

His employer should have carried out a risk assessment that would have identified that there was a risk of a spark causing damage to the overhead lighting and taken steps to remove the risk. His employer, the defendant, admitted liability for her client’s work accident and Sharon was able to negotiate over £2,000 in work accident compensation.

Work accident compensation claim – Exposure to hazardous substance

This client had been employed by a local authority and was engaged in flood defences. Part of his duties required him to deliver sandbags to houses at times of high flood alert. On one occasion, he was required to wade through the floodwater but had not been provided with appropriate personal protective clothing such as waterproof boots or waders. This failure on the part of his employer breached the Personal and Protective Equipment Regulations.

As a result of coming into contact with raw sewage, Sharon’s client suffered an infection. The local authority refused to negotiate an acceptable settlement and Sharon was forced to issue court proceedings. However, prior to the trial date Sharon was able to negotiate an acceptable sum in work accident compensation.

Work accident compensation claim – Slipped on ice

Sharon’s client suffered a soft tissue injury to his wrist when he slipped on ice as he moved around his employer’s premises. The area was exposed to the elements but was a designated route around the premises. His employer should have taken steps to ensure employees could use this area in safety, by clearing the snow or ice. By failing to maintain a safe working environment, his employer was in breach of The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.

The defendant admitted liability and Sharon was able to negotiate accident compensation for this slipping accident at work.
