Bus driver compensated after assault at work

A bus driver has successfully pursued a compensation claim after he was injured in an assault at work.

Our client was driving a bus when a passenger boarded the bus using a travel pass with a photograph which did not match the person who was trying to use it. Furthermore, when the bus driver scanned the travel pass it was flagged up as lost or stolen.

When our client tried to confiscate the bus pass, the passenger grabbed his hand, causing a fracture to the driver's little finger. The bus driver was alone at the time of the incident and had been given no training on how to respond in this situation. Moreover, the assault glass which usually separated the bus driver from passengers had been removed from the vehicle.

Following the incident, the bus driver contacted our specialist personal injury solicitors who investigated a compensation claim on his behalf. His employer admitted liability on account of the lack of training provided and the removal of the assault glass, and compensation was secured for our client.
