Lathe operator receives work accident compensation for hand injury

Our client in this claim for work accident compensation suffered an injury to his hand whilst operating a lathe.

Our specialist work accident compensation lawyers were able to prove that his employers had been negligent in their duty of care towards our client. On his behalf, they won several thousand pounds in work accident compensation.

Accident at work

The accident happened as our client was cutting a length from a piece of stainless steel. In order to carefully cut the final few centimetres, he took the machine off automatic and continued to operate it manually. Suddenly, a long piece of hot swarf dropped down and wrapped around our client's fingers, digging into them.

The machine stopped with a sharp jolt when our client hit the stop button, causing the swarf to drop, freeing his hand. He suffered serious cuts to his fingers which have left him with reduced sensation in his fingers and difficulty in manipulating small objects.
