Health and safety breach results in injury for chef

A sous-chef has been awarded compensation after his employer failed to maintain a safe working environment which led to an injury.

The chef was collecting ingredients from the floor above the kitchen and fell while climbing back down the stairs. He was admitted to hospital, received an x-ray and was diagnosed with a fracture before being fitted with a cast. The doctor prescribed a course of painkillers and the fracture took eight weeks to heal.

After calling our accident at work specialists, who established that his employer should have had a handrail on the stairs, he was awarded compensation for the accident due to the unsafe workplace.
