Health Care Assistant burned by heat lamp

Our client, who worked in a hospital as a healthcare assistant, was burned while serving food to patients on a ward because she had not been provided with suitable protective equipment.

She brought the meals to the ward on a trolley which had heat lamps installed to keep the food warm. While standing at the trolley to put food onto a plate for a patient, her arm came into contact with one of the heat lamps which caused her to suffer a painful burn.

Had the safety gauntlets she had been provided with been long enough to cover the affected area of her arm, she would not have sustained the injury.

Employers ignored safety concerns

Our client and her colleagues had raised this safety issue with management on many occasions prior to the accident, but no action was taken to provide kitchen staff with the correct protective equipment.

Following her accident, she was referred to our specialist personal injury lawyers who were able to secure her compensation for her injury after her employer admitted breaching their health and safety obligations to its employees.

As a result of the accident, our client was left with minor scarring.
