Injured metal worker was given inappropriate gloves

Our client, who worked at a metal works, was injured when using a plate saw because the gloves he was wearing weren't fitted properly. Multiple shards of metal went into the gloves as he was sawing, causing a deep cut to his thumb. Our client contacted the Clear Answers specialist personal injury team for advice on how to claim compensation. We were able to secure several thousands of pounds of damages for his injury.

Employer breached PPE regulations

Our client should have been provided with the correct personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure that fragments of metal were not able to go cut through his glove. His employers admitted liability for breaching PPE regulations by failing to provide our client with elasticated gloves which would have prevented the accident.

The shard of metal made a deep cut in our client's thumb. He was taken to hospital in an ambulance to obtain emergency medical treatment, and required surgery to correct tendon damage to both his thumb and wrist.

Our client was able to return to work after recovering from his emergency surgery, but has permanent scarring and loss of movement in his thumb.
