Prison worker compensated after injury at work

A prison worker has successfully pursued a compensation claim after he was injured in an accident at work.

Our client was working in the prison's recycling department when he cut his finger on a razor blade that was hidden inside a black bin bag. The only form of protective gloves provided to our client at the time of the accident were latex gloves, which were insufficient.

He suffered a severe cut to his middle finger which required hospital treatment. The cut exposed our client to numerous infectious diseases, which meant he had to undergo a series of blood tests to ensure he had not contracted an infection.

The wait for the results of his blood tests caused our client serious anxiety and worry as did the possibility of having contracted an infectious disease. This emotional distress and our client's injury could have been avoided had his employers instituted a safe system for waste disposal.

Following the accident, the prison worker contacted our specialist personal injury solicitors who investigated a compensation claim on his behalf. His employer admitted liability for the accident and compensation was secured for our client.
