Pedestrian receives substantial road accident compensation

Our client in this road accident compensation claim was a pedestrian. He suffered serious and extensive injuries when he was knocked down by a reversing vehicle as he was waiting to cross a road.

Although the defendant admitted liability immediately, he refused to negotiate an acceptable settlement. Our specialist road accident compensation lawyers were forced to issue court proceedings, but before the trial date, they were able to negotiate accident compensation in excess of £200,000 for our client's serious injuries.

Road accident circumstances

The defendant was the driver of the car who had stopped to let our client get out. As our client moved behind the vehicle to cross the road, the driver reversed, knocking our client over and driving over him. He suffered multiple injuries to his head and face as well as several broken bones. He also suffered fractures to other parts of his body and needed several corrective operations. He has been left with restricted mobility and severe psychiatric problems as a direct result of his traumatic experience.

Having intended to continue in his current employment for many years until his retirement, our client was unable to return to his previous work and his employer subsequently terminated his employment on the grounds of ill health. Due to his serious injuries, it is unlikely that our client would be able to regain his HGV licence and he has since been advised that it is unlikely that he will return to any paid work.

Negligence caused road accident

Our specialist personal injury lawyers had argued that the defendant, the driver, had been negligent, as he had failed to take notice of his surroundings before reversing. Had he turned in his seat to look at the road behind his vehicle, he would have been aware of our client's proximity to his vehicle.
