Substantial road accident compensation for spinal injury

Our client in this serious road accident compensation claim had been a minor (under eighteen years of age) at the time of her accident. Although court proceedings were issued, our specialist road accident lawyers were able to negotiate this substantial sum in compensation (over £2 million), which will be needed to provide suitable accommodation for our client, as well as the care she will need for the rest of her life.

Interim payments in advance of road accident compensation

As with many such serious accident compensation claims, especially when the victim is a minor at the time of the accident, reaching a final conclusion and a fair settlement to finance the care required for many years to come, can be lengthy, frequently taking many years. Our specialist serious injury solicitors, fought to obtain £750,000 in interim payments within five months of the day of the accident. This enabled our client and her family to purchase suitable accommodation in order to begin to rebuild her life, without waiting for the final outcome and final award of road accident compensation.

Serious road accident injuries

Our client was a rear passenger in a car when it was involved in a serious road accident. The road accident compensation claim was made against the driver and his insurers. Investigations following the road accident, found that the driver had been responsible for the road accident.

The car had veered across the road, failing to follow the bend, and collided head on with a lorry travelling in the opposite direction.

Our client suffered numerous injuries, the most serious of which was an injury to her spinal cord, causing permanent paraplegia. Whilst this life-changing injury would be devastating at any age, our client was still a minor and would have to deal with the effects of this road accident for many years to come.

The impact of spinal cord injuries

As our client and her family came to terms with the life-changing effects of her injuries, they began to plan for the future and realised that she would not only be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of her life, but that their current accommodation was not suitable for wheelchair access, and could not be altered to accommodate this. Whilst the road accident compensation claim continued, our specialist personal injury lawyers sought an interim payment, which would allow our client to purchase suitable accommodation in order to begin the long road to recovery and as normal a life as she could achieve.

Issuing court proceedings

Although the defendant's insurers had admitted liability for our client's injuries, they refused to offer an acceptable sum in road accident compensation. Our serious injury lawyers were forced to issue court proceedings in an attempt to secure a more suitable sum. We negotiated fiercely and were successful in securing an appropriate level of road accident compensation some time before the trial date.

Our client retained 100% of her road accident compensation and we were able to secure the compensation at no cost to our client. The full sum has been paid into a trust fund, which will ensure sufficient funds are available for our client throughout her lifetime.
