Tragic Mesothelioma Death For Former James Bond Film Set Employee

Pinewood Studios, the film sets for movies such as James Bond's Goldfinger, the Carry On movies and a host of other high profile films are currently involved in a High Court battle after a former employee died of the fatal asbestos cancer mesothelioma.

Ronald Sharp from Feltham in Essex, died aged 59 from mesothelioma which he contracted after working as a scenic painter at Pinewood Studios in the 1960s and 1970s.

Unsafe Working Practices

Asbestos was used in abundance at the studios as it acted as a fire retardant due to the inflammable special effects used in the Bond films. asbestos boards lined the sets and Mr Sharp regularly worked next to the carpenters who cut them up. No protective equipment was provided to ensure that the client did not breathe in the dust.

Barbara Sharp, Ronald Sharp's widow explains: "I never expected to lose my husband so young due to the negligence of his former employers. No amount of money will bring him back, but I will fight to ensure that his former employers, who exposed him to the asbestos that killed him, should be made to pay full compensation"

David Stothard, Mrs Sharp's solicitor from Clear Answers' lawyers, Thompsons Solicitors comments: "Before his death, Mr Sharp recounted to me his days as a scenic painter at Pinewood Studios. He showed me scenes from the movie Goldfinger, freeze framing them to point out the actual piping lagged with asbestos in certain scenes. For innocent victims like Mr Sharp, mesothelioma is a tragic illness caused by the negligence of their employers."
