Wet hostel worker wins compensation after violent attack

A woman was awarded compensation after contacting our accident at work specialists, following a violent incident at her workplace which caused her physical and psychological injury.

She worked at a wet hostel, where alcoholic patients were permitted a daily amount of alcohol as prescribed by their GP. One of her roles was to hand out alcohol cans to patients.

The incident occurred when a patient was refused his can, as he had been seen drinking earlier that day. He snatched the drink from her and walked away with it. The claimant followed him, holding out her hand asking for him to return the can. He responded by verbally abusing her, to which she turned around and walked away. From behind, the man grabbed her hair and threw her down to the floor, then proceeded to kick her on her side.

As a result of the incident, the claimant suffered a back injury as well as resulting psychological symptoms, for which she required four months off work. Upon her return to work, she was transferred to light duties after struggling with continued back pain.

After contacting our specialist solicitors, she was awarded a compensation package for her injuries.
